Matt Ramella has been appointed vice-president, digital at UM Canada.

Most recently global VP, strategy and intelligence at Syncapse for consumer packaged goods and financial services clients, Ramella will oversee the development and roll-out of strategic interactive media projects for UM’s clients.

Ramella will also be responsible for growing digital talent at the media agency and expanding its profile in the digital media industry, according to a release issued Wednesday.

While at Syncapse, Ramella’s client list included JP Morgan Chase and AB InBev. His initial role with the company was VP of strategy and content practice. Last week, the social media management company filed for bankruptcy after recently laying off a significant number of its staff.

Ramella has also previously held positions at Starcom MediaVest Group and Labatt Breweries of Canada.

UM is a division of IPG Mediabrands. UM clients in Canada include Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola, AB InBev and Chrysler.
