The head of Canada’s broadcast regulator won’t be re-appointed to the post.
CRTC chairman Konrad von Finckenstein‘s five-year term expires in January.
He’s expected to meet with his staff today to inform them he won’t be coming back, despite reports suggesting he’d like to stay on the job.
He and the Conservative government have butted heads several times since he was appointed in 2007.
Last spring, a feud erupted over a CRTC decision on how internet companies bill their subscribers, prompting von Finckenstein to back down and order a review.
The Harper government also hasn’t agreed with von Finckenstein’s stand on restricting foreign ownership of telecommunications companies, going to court to get a decision overturned.
A spokesperson for the CRTC didn’t immediately return a request for more information.
