Several Canadians have been selected among the world’s top influencers and agencies in public relations, according to lists compiled by the British research firm Onalytica.
Close to 700,000 tweets mentioning the hashtags #PR, #DigitalPR,#PublicRelations,#CorporateCommunications and #Corpcomm were analyzed and identified in its PR 2015: Top 100 Influencers & Brands report.
“Influencer relations is a truly essential part of modern PR,” Onalytica notes, and one of the most time consuming parts of influencer relations is identifying the right thought leaders.
Maggie Patterson of Ottawa (@magspatterson) emerged as the top Canadian influencer at number seven. Patterson is a communications strategist, host of the Marketing Moxie show and blogger.
Vancouver-based Jeff Domansky (@ThePRCoach) followed at 17, while Behzad Salehoun (@BSalehoun), founder of LOT/1P in Toronto was 22. Deborah Weinstein (@debweinstein), president of Strategic Objectives in Toronto was 39.
Other Canadians on the list include John Kageorge (@JKageorge) of Vital Communications in Vancouver at 78, communications consultant Katherine Thompson (@Irishkatherine) of Edmonton at 85 and regular Marketing columnist Martin Waxman (@martinwaxman) of Toronto at 90.
Among PR brands (or firms), Strategic Objectives (@SO_pr) tops the list of independent Canadian firms at 54, while Argyle Public Relationships (@ArgylePR) weighs in at 97.
“To show up on the list is pretty exciting,” says Strategic Objective’s Weinstein, about being named to both lists. “We think it’s because we work really hard to do a good job on Twitter sharing news and information. I’m a strong proponent for social PR.”
