Yahoo has launched a bilingual version of its news and content app for the Canadian market, offering personalized news aggregation on a clean, image-heavy interface.
Users can read stories in 12 categories, including news, business, sports and entertainment. A card-based interface lets users swipe through stories to find new content in a manner similar to Flipboard. The app also brings in Yahoo’s various web services, including search, weather, Yahoo News Digest and Flickr photo-sharing.
For advertisers, the new app provides a cleaner experience around in-stream native advertisements, which Yahoo made available in Canada in May. Ads appear in the news stream next to content and are designed to aesthetically blend with the app for a less intrusive user experience.
A similar Canadian app for iOS will follow in the coming weeks. Update: The iOS version has been released.
