An environmental viral spot from Calgary’s Joe Media Group that depicts public urination may end up on television.
The spot, a popular topic on ad blogs yesterday, shows men and women answering the call of nature in inappropriate urban places.
A voiceover says “When we idle our vehicles, you’re basically saying ‘Piss on the planet.’ ”
The closing super says “No Idle. Get turned off. For good.”
Joe Media, a production company, worked with creative director Christopher Heatherington from Calgary agency Wonder Communications and director Philip Kates to create the spot.
According to Heatherington, the client Idle Free Calgary is a environmental lobby group. The organization could not be reached by press time.
“We weren’t going to capture anyone’s attention with a non-emotional or rational argument,” said Heatherington of the ad’s provocative strategy. “The premise of any good television ad is to stop distracted eyeballs to make a point at the end of the spot.”
An alternate version with a more TV-suitable voiceover and a French-language version have been submitted to Telecaster Services for approval to run on Canadian television.
Heatherington added that groups in the United Kingdom and United States have expressed interest in the ad.
