Women in the marketing and communications industry are well represented on Profit magazine’s annual W100 list of the top 100 female entrepreneurs in Canada.

Dawna Henderson, president and CEO of Toronto digital agency Henderson Bas, takes the topmost ranking among the industry’s four representatives. At number 18, it marks her seventh consecutive year on the list. In a release, Henderson said she was “delighted” to be chosen again.

“Changes in technology are creating new opportunities and opening more doors and it is a great time for women to take advantage of [them],” she said. “The award is not only a testament to the great work we put out, but also serves as inspiration to women entrepreneurs out there.”

Pat McNamara, CEO of Apex Public Relations, came in at number 62 this year, having graced the 2008 and 2009 W100 lists. McNamara ceded the president’s role to Linda Andross last October, but has remained involved in business operations. Apex’s client list includes Levi’s, Nintendo, Nike and the recently won Coty Canada.

Jacquelyn Cyr, CEO of Espresso, holds the number 89 spot on the list after rising through the agency’s ranks over the last six years. After becoming COO of what was then called Retail Communications Group in 2008, she was made partner in 2009 following its rebranding.

“It’s been a truly amazing year for Espresso and for me personally–this recognition from Profit really caps it off,” said Cyr, in a statement. “I tremendously appreciate the nod and intend to continue doing head-turning, smart work for our clients and our organization.”

Rounding out the list is Viive Tamm, executive director of Tamm Communications, a Toronto-based branding agency. Another W100 alum, Tamm is number 93 this year, after landing at number 32 in 2009.

Tamm Communications counts Pet Valu and Rexall among its clients.
