Operating under a new mandate to embrace and drive change, the Institute of Communication Agencies (ICA) announced yesterday it has added eight advertising and marketing communication firms to its membership roster.

The companies range in size, and include the Toronto agencies Innocean Canada, The Hive, Hey Harry/Be The Change, The Marketing Store, bright red communications and Smith Roberts, along with Calgary-based Venture and Edmonton agency Free.

“Given the dramatic pace of innovation in the communications industry, agencies are recognizing that the ICA can help them embrace and drive change,” said Gillian Graham, the ICA’s chief executive officer, in a release. “Agencies are increasingly discovering that the ICA can play a key role in supporting the extraordinary value it provides to advertisers.”

Since the beginning of the year, the ICA has introduced what it characterizes as “groundbreaking initiatives” intended to provide better value to its members and to promote the Canadian advertising industry on a global basis.

The initiatives include talent development workshops, thought leadership programs, expanded proficiency in the digital space, collaborative partnerships and the hosting of international guest speakers.
