Marketing has selected Canada’s Top Agencies for 2012. These are the agencies, from across the country and the industry, that proved they have their finger on the pulse of marketing, media and advertising in 2012.
“There are many, many agencies doing great work in Canada,” explained Marketing‘s executive editor David Brown in the Dec. 17 issue which hits streets today. “But these 10 shops rose above the pack, in our estimation, for the breadth and depth of their work.”
These 10 agencies are the contenders for the ultimate Agency of the Year honour, profiled next month along with the Marketer of the Year and Media Player of the Year. All three will be revealed at a special “The Best of 2012” cocktail event in Toronto, Jan. 23.
As always, the selection of these agencies of the year was entirely an editorial decision.
“The process starts in late summer with a call for nominations. We get a pile of those in, some more thorough than others, and the review begins. A long list is compiled based on those submissions and our own observations about who was doing great work over the last 12 months,” wrote Brown. “Big account wins, strong creative output, strategic thinking, impressive performances at awards shows, important hires—all are taken into consideration.
“We take feedback and recommendations under advisement, to be sure. But there is no formal scoring and nobody outside of the editorial team is there for the final decisions. After a lot of research, debate, discussing which shops are sure things and which are better suited to the ‘maybe’ pile, we end up with 10 agencies for this list. It’s never easy and it wasn’t easy this year, but we feel these shops deserve praise and respect for their exceptional performance in 2012.”
