Zulu Alpha Kilo has hired Joseph Bonnici as its newest creative director.
The four-time Cannes Lion-winning copywriter had been working freelance at Zulu for the past nine months following his departure from Lowe Roche last November.
“We’re working collaboratively together,” said Zak Mroueh, agency founder and, until now, its sole creative director. “We’ve picked up a lot of new business.”
Bonnici worked on Stella Artois and Mackenzie Financial while at Roche. Prior to that he spent time at DDB Vancouver and Taxi, where he helped created the Aisle Signs campaign for Canadian Tire.
“Joseph is one of the top creative people in the country. He worked with me at Taxi, so there’s a comfort in bringing someone on who I know can deliver big brand ideas. He’s one of those rare talents who’s both strategic and creative,” Mroueh said in a statement.
Bonnici is the second of Zulu’s senior staff to come from Roche. Last summer Scot Keith came aboard as general manager. With more than 30 staffers now filling the Toronto office, Mroueh said he’s looking to hire five more people in the near future.
Zulu is agency of record for Bell Canada, Puma, online payment company Mazooma and Carlton University.
