Pfizer Canada is giving Canadians a “smidge” of inspiration and motivation to adopt a healthier lifestyle through the launch of a free mobile application in both English and French.

Pfizer’s first ever app, called Smidge, focuses on small changes people can make to improve body, mind and spirit in six areas: Be More Positive, Eat More Fruits and Veggies, Train Your Brain, Take the Stairs, Deep Breathing and Drink More Water.

The app, built by Klick Communications, encourages users to adopt one of the six activities for at least 21 days–the amount of time it takes to adopt a habit.

Pfizer developed the app based on research that showed people often need motivation to stay on track with health goals, said Veronica Piacek, director of consumer communications and relations.

Smidge tracks the users progress and allows them to share it on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.

The app is aimed at adults 30 and older looking to improve their health, but Pfizer hopes young adults will get on board too, and hopefully encourage their parents to participate, said Piacek.

The mobile application is an extension of Pfizer’s More Than Medication platform and website that launched in 2008 developed by CP+B Canada (formerly Zig).

Piacek said while most health and wellness applications concentrate only on one area, Smidge focuses on both mind and body. “That’s what differentiates it from other apps out there.” 

Pfizer is supporting the app with online and outdoor ads from CP+B Canada, PR efforts managed by Strategic Objectives and media buying handled by Mediacom.
