Astral Media announced Monday that vice-president, corporate communications and chief marketing officer Alain Bergeron is leaving the company by Aug. 31. Bergeron will start scaling back his responsibilities by mid-June.

“After nine years as a member of Astral’s executive team, I am proud of the work we have accomplished,” said Bergeron, in a statement. “However, I feel that I have achieved my mission here and want to take some time to reflect before embarking on the next stage of my career.”

Bergeron, who joined the company in 2001, told Marketing the primary mission for his time with the company was to help Astral walk and talk as one company and one image, and he just completed the launch of Astral’s new brand image.

The 45-year-old said he has no specific plans for his next career move. “What I’m going to do next is take the summer off with my kids and my family, so their agenda will be my agenda,” he said. “Then I’ll come back in the fall with Alain 3.0.”

Astral CEO Ian Greenberg praised Bergeron’s contribution in a statement: “During his time with us, the size of the company doubled. He ensured that Astral’s image and corporate reputation evolved as we did.

“Alain advised me of his decision in March but insisted that it was important to him to see the launch of our new brand to completion. Mission accomplished! I know that he will be just as successful in the next stage of his career. I wish him much-merited success.”
