Canada’s Hottest Ads: Puppies and moms rule January

Two Canadian ads find their way to the top ten

Unsurprisingly, the Super Bowl shaped a large portion of Canadian’s online ad viewing habits in January. Budweiser’s “Puppy Love” spot (32 million views globally in three days!) led a pack that included Newcastle, Bud Light and Duracell coming out of the NFL’s big day.

However, P&G Canada’s “Pick Them Back Up” spot also pops in at number three, showing Sochi was already on marketer’s minds. The message has been one the CPG company has been carrying for years, but it’s clearly getting through to Canadians, who viewed it more than 408,000 times over the course of the month.

This continuation of “Thanks Mom” and Sid Lee’s Toronto FC spot are the only Canadian contributions to January’s top ten, a list otherwise dominated by male grooming products, beer and work from Wieden + Kennedy (an agency with three entries in the ranking).

Note: The published “views” stats reflect global views for the month of January. The overall ranking indicates which ads were most-watched within Canada. To be included on this ranking, a video must be listed as an ad on the video service. While YouTube does not make Canadian viewer statistics available, it determines this ranking with a process that accounts for paid and organic views and how much of a given video viewers watch.
