La Presse+, the free digital edition of La Presse for tablets, will be available for selected Android models beginning April 23, it was announced Friday.

The launch makes La Press+ content available to a broader array of mobile devices after the service launched last year for Apple devices only.

“The launch of the Android version of La Presse+ means thousands of new readers will enjoy access to our free digital edition, on a more extensive range of tablet devices,” Guy Crevier, president and publisher of La Presse said in a statement.

The Android version of the app will feature enriched, multimedia versions of every section of the La Presse print edition, plus a broad array of exclusive content. It will be available for tablets with an Android operating system version 4.2 or higher, a 7-inch or larger display screen, sufficient processing and graphics power to support La Presse+’s media-rich functionalities, and access to the Google Play Store.

La Presse first launched its mobile version last year with a free subscription for the iPad through Apple’s Newsstand app. Groupe Gesca, La Presse‘s parent company, has invested $40 million and three years into the development La Presse+.

La Presse+ is available every morning before 5:30 a.m., seven days a week.
