Steve Maich, Rogers Publishing‘s still-new senior vice-president and general manager, announced a handful of changes Monday afternoon at some of Canada’s biggest magazines.

Most prominent among the appointments is Derek DeCloet, most recently editor at Report on Business, who assumes the newly created role of director of content strategy.

A statement from Maich said DeCloet’s new position will “provide strategic vision and leadership for our consumer-based editorial teams, and help guide the shift toward new types of digital content on multiple platforms, while still producing the country’s best magazines.

“We are fortunate to have a journalist and a leader of Derek’s calibre joining our already outstanding team here at Publishing,” said Maich, to whom DeCloet will report. “He has the vision, enthusiasm and strategic thinking required for this role, as we continue to evolve our business in new and exciting ways.”

Meanwhile, Sandra Parente, currently publisher of MoneySense and once a general manager of corporate sales for Rogers Media, has been made group publisher of Rogers’ current affairs group, which includes Maclean’s and Sportsnet.

She’ll begin overseeing the business operations of her new magazines on March 17.

Taking over her role at MoneySense is Ian Portsmouth, who currently oversees Canadian Business and Profit. With all three consumer-facing business magazines now in his portfolio, Portsmouth assumes the role of group publisher, business. He will also start his new role on March 17.

Finally, Sophie Banford has been pointed group publisher of the Quebec-based women’s titles. Overseeing magazines such as LouLou and Chȃtelaine, Banford (like Parente) will report to executive publisher Lorraine Hoefler. Banford arrives from TVA, where she served as publisher on Clin d’Oeil and Moi & Cie.
