Lakeport Brewing helped keep motors running over the holiday weekend, with the launch of its Hamilton-based “Champion of Fair Prices” gas promotion saving drivers $10 at the pump.

Last Friday, motorists filling up at the Rainbow Gas station, at Upper Gage Avenue and Stone Church Road, received a $10 gas coupon, which they were able to redeem immediately. More than 200 cars filled up during the two-hour event, said Tom Rolfe, brand manager, Lakeport Brewing. The event was promoted on local radio stations 60 minutes before it started.

“Lakeport recognizes the impact of rising gas prices to Ontarians and wanted to do something about it,” said Rolfe.

Rolfe said the event also enabled the brewery to reinforce its key “$10” message. A case of Lakeport beer—bottles or cans—is $10 cheaper than the national brands.

The Ontario-based brewery chose Hamilton to pilot the project because it’s a Lakeport-friendly market. If gas prices continue to soar this summer, there’s a good chance Lakeport will run the promotion in other cities, Rolfe said.
