Saks has a new president, and it’s not Bonnie Brooks
Harrods executive Marigay McKee will replace outgoing Saks president Ron Frasch once shareholders approve HBC’s $2.4 billion acquisition of the upscale retailer. When the HBC/Saks acquisition was announce in July, industry experts speculated that Brooks, vice chairman of Hudson’s Bay, would have a hand in re-building the Saks brand.

Upworthy raises $8M in third venture capital round
Upworthy, a Buzzfeed-like aggregator focused on positive, activist-driven content, has raised eight million in capital from some new media heavyweights including MoveOn.org’s Eli Pariser and Chris Hughes from Facebook. With the investment the media company which attracts 20 million unique visitors a month, plans to work on its monetization plan.

Google’s putting its dough where its data is
Google is continuing to put big bucks—we’re talking billions—into its internet infrastructure. In the second quarter of this year alone the tech giant has put $1.6 billion towards its data centres. Most of Google’s capital investments are being pumped into things like servers, data centres and networking equipment.

General Mills is making a content play with this 90-second web video styled like a gotcha TV show, a la To Catch a Predator. The Saatchi & Saatchi created spot helps the conservative brand appears less traditional than usual, but it’s still a marathon away from funny.
