Yellow Pages is struggling to keep relevant and it’s updated its brand identity to show it’s just ad simple and clear as what it provides for users. The company’s logo uses a bold sans serif font that’s underlined in a yellow line – a nod to the highlighting and checking that its ambitious multi-tasking users favour.

Media critic now making branded content for Scientology
This is a weird one. A formerly outspoken media critic in Florida has landed a new gig as editor-in-chief of a Scientology backed magazine called Freedom. Wonder what he kind of brand-spin he’ll be able to put on the church’s archive of Tom Cruise videos.

The next generation of ad blockers is here
Loads of ad blockers are available as web browser extensions for Chrome and FireFox, but the latest ad blocker, called AdTrap, hooks up to a consumer’s modem, blocking ad networks before they can even reach a computer or mobile device. After funding AdTrap on Kickstarter, the company started shipping the product last month.

Ebay acquires mobile payment company
Ebay is paying around $800 million for Braintree, a Chicago-based company that helps merchants process online or mobile payments. The move will strengthen eBay’s PayPal unit and help thwart the efforts of fast-rising competitors such as Square and GoPayment. As part of the deal, eBay gains access to Venmo, an app that allows consumers to pay via smartphone and tablet.
