Agency’s ninja stunt fools the internet
When a website for a ninja-themed sake bar complete with an indoor star-throwing range turned up in December it seemed too good (read: bonkers) to be true. It was. As it turns out, the website was a stunt by Whit Hiler, Kentucky-based creative at the ad agency Cornett, the same guy who created the much-shared ad agency human centipede infographic.

Candy Crush maker now owns the word “candy”
King, the developers behind the inescapably popular mobile game Candy Crush, have won a claim to own the word “candy.” According to Trademarkia, the trademark applies to not only game-related goods like “compact discs, DVDs and video recordings featuring computer games” but also clothing, including, aprons, bandanas, bath robes, bathing suits, beachwear, belts, boots, etc. The makers of the similarly named mobile game All Candy Casino Slots have already been told to “remove their app or prove that their game doesn’t infringe upon the trademark.”

Hershey’s to make 3D chocolate printer
Hershey’s is partnering with 3D Systems to create a 3D printer that will make chocolate and other edible items. According to the company, it sees the technology as a good way of delivering its products and also believes a Hershey-branded 3D printer could help the technology go more mainstream. “Whether it’s creating a whole new form of candy or developing a new way to produce it, we embrace new technologies such as 3D printing as a way to keep moving our timeless confectionery treats into the future,” said William Papa, head of research and development at Hershey.

Almay selects Carrie Underwood as brand ambassador
Revlon-owned Almay has named country crooner Carrie Underwood its global brand ambassador. As such, the former American Idol winner will appear in multimedia campaigns, the first of which launches this week. In addition to social media and television, exclusive behind-the-scenes content will be available on Almay.com as well as the brands social channels. Beauty brands clearly love Underwood’s fresh-faced look. She served as Olay’s first celebrity brand ambassador from 2010-2012.
