Canada’s got creative talent, and not just in the C-suite.

Four young Canadians were among the winners in this year’s Young Lions competition, which annually showcases the blossoming ad talent of competitors under the age of 28.

Sahar Jamal, assistant brand manager at Reckitt Benckiser and Michelle Yee, a marketing specialist at Telus, earned a bronze medal in the marketers category. The group’s assignment was to create a project for Room to Read, a non-profit organization that promotes literacy initiatives in the developing world.

Hannah Smit and Kyle Lamb, both art directors at John St., took home a silver medal in film. Their brief had them come up with a spot to address age discrimination for Help Age International.

“It’s hard to describe it all in words,” said Yee. “To be in the presence of such breathtaking creative work and passionate members of the industry…I’ve never felt such awe.”

Smit had a similar sense of excitement. “I don’t think we’ll be promoted to creative directors anytime soon, but I’m sure it helps put us on more peoples’ radar,” she said. Smit and Lamb also won a bronze Cyber Lion for their work with Mitsubishi.
