App reports 500,000 users after less than a year in-market

Kristie Painting, formerly general manager and vice-president of sales and marketing for Olive Media, is set to lead sales at Checkout 51. She will be joined at the startup app developer by John Alexiou, former director of customer information at McCain Foods, who becomes director of consumer insights.

Checkout 51 is named for its mobile shopping app that photographs and analyzes grocery receipts, then offers consumers relevant rebates from partner brands. Pema Hegan, former partner at Rethink, and Noah Godfrey, formerly of Gig Park and Dose, launched it in late 2012.

“Kristie is one of Canada’s most respected sales leaders who brings experience scaling sales operations and delivering top-notch service to clients,” said Hegan, in a release. “We’re excited to have Kristie take our partnerships with brands to the next level.”

Alexiou, he added, proves a “wealth of knowledge and experience in managing insights for packaged goods companies,” and will help the company “deliver new, invaluable products that brand partners can’t get anywhere else.”

Checkout 51 reports that more than 500,000 Canadians now use its platform. It has partnered with CPG companies including Kellogg’s, Unilever and Mondelez.
