Franco-Ontarian broadcast network TFO has named former CEO of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) Glenn O’Farrell as its new president and CEO.

“TFO is an essential institution for francophone communities throughout Ontario, and is recognized as a producer and distributor of quality educational and cultural content,” said O’Farrell, in a statement. “It is imperative that we meet the challenges and seize the opportunities presented by the digital media to continue its mission to better serve French life in Ontario.”

Most recently, O’Farrell was the CEO of Media de Novo, leading the firm’s failed application to the CRTC to sell ad space on U.S. specialty channels’ local avails in Canada and direct the majority of the revenues to Canadian programming.

O’Farrell headed up the CAB from 2002 to 2009 and before that worked at CanWest Global’s executive vice-president, specialized services and VP, legal and regulatory affairs.

“Mr. O’Farrell is someone who has a tremendous amount of experience in the areas of television and multimedia content and services,” said Gisèle Chrétien, chair of TFO’s board of directors, in a statement. “He is an experienced manager and an exceptional professional.”
