A day after announcing its newest offering, Sportsnet One, Rogers Sportnet has signed a three-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks to have 13 games per year broadcast on the new 24-hour sports channel.

“This is an exciting acquisition for Rogers Sportsnet One,” said Doug Beeforth, president of Rogers Sportsnet, in a statement. “We know there is a great passion for the Canucks in B.C., so this deal complements our existing television package of 45 games.”

This new partnership is in addition to Rogers Sportsnet Pacific’s current 45-game Canucks broadcast in British Columbia and the Yukon Territories. NHL regional restrictions still apply to Sportsnet One, making Canucks games available only to viewers in that region.

Sportsnet One launches on Aug. 14 and will feature primarily HD content from the Toronto Raptors, NBA, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, Major League Baseball and Barclay’s Premier League soccer. It’s the sixth Sportsnet broadcast property, joining regional channels Sportsnet East, Sportsnet Ontario, Sportsnet West and Sportsnet Pacific.

“We know there is an incredible appetite for live-event sports, and we plan to fulfill that need,” said Beeforth. “We are confident that Rogers Sportsnet One will be a must-watch for Canadian sports fans, and a great addition to the sports broadcasting landscape in this country.”
