At a time when the economic climate is having a significant negative effect on luxury goods of all sorts, the Canadian edition of Hello! magazine, the finely appointed celebrity weekly devoted to the lifestyles of the rich, famous and royal, continues to buck the trend.
Ever since Rogers Publishing launched Hello! in August 2006, circulation has been steadily rising, and currently averages 100,000 newsstand and subscription copies per week.
What does that translate to in terms of total audience? According to readership research recently conducted by Roper Reports Canada, each issue of Hello! attracts one million Canadian adults (18+), an average of 10 readers-per-copy.
“This outstanding audience number is truly reflective of how popular Hello! has become with Canadians in a very short period of time,” said Hello! publisher David Hamilton. Anticipating continued audience growth, Hamilton optimistically adds, “this is only the beginning!”
The Roper study employs the same Recent Reading methodology currently used by the Print Measurement Bureau.
Hello! has already joined PMB and is included in the current fieldwork. Hello!’s initial, one-year results will be included with the release of PMB’s 2010 spring data.
