Tonight, a free Toronto evening newspaper that targets commuters, has partnered with Sportsnet on a co-branded daily sports section.

Content will come from Sportsnet’s TV, radio, online and print contributors.

Because Tonight (or T.O.night, as it is also known) is published in the early afternoon, the new one-page section will run stories about that evening’s key match-ups with a focus on Toronto sports teams. Paul Brousseau, senior director of marketing for Sportsnet (which, like Marketing, is a Rogers Media property), said there will also be some opinion pieces that are more timeless or future-looking.

“We’re looking to fuel people’s passion for sports. This [partnership] felt like a great fit for late afternoon commuting,” said Brousseau.

Tonight‘s Toronto billboards will highlight the new section, and Sportsnet’s radio and television properties will also promote the partnership.

According to Tonight, its Toronto-based circulation is 184,000 high-income readers with an average age of 39.
