Prospects for the Canadian graphic arts market must be looking up as two industry manufacturers/suppliers, Durst and Inx International, are setting up shop and strengthen their national exposure—both showing interest in the packaging business.

Itallian-based Durst, manufacturer of digital printing equipment for the wide format graphics and photographic markets has established a wholly-owned subsidiary in Canada, Durst Canada Inc. located outside Montreal, and has since acquired Canadian-based Rotoworx Systems Inc., a provider of finishing systems for the narrow-web label industry.

Rotoworx, established in 2008, has found success installing finishing sytems for digital label printing presses. “The acquisition of Rotoworx is a key-element in our multi-year strategy of developing new innovative digital solutions for a broad range of industrial printing markets,” notes Per Frost, CEO of Durst Canada in a company statement.

INX International Ink Co., part of Sakata INX worldwide, has opened a second Canadian location, a field office in Mississauga, Ontario, to complement its main Terrebonne, Quebec location. The new 15,000 sq.-ft. warehousing and distribution facility will service and supply customers across Canada, handling inks for offset, flexographic and gravure processes as well as coatings and digital inks.

“INX International has enjoyed very good growth in the greater Toronto area in the last few years, and this new facility will take us to the next level with our customers,” said Ron Deegan, director of sales for the liquid ink division in Canada and general manager of INX Toronto in a release.

“With two facilities now in Canada, it puts us in a strong position to focus on growth throughout the country. This new facility signals a huge commitment to the Canadian printing market from INX International. In uncertain economic conditions, it proves we are committed to our current customer base and that we are focused on growth and becoming a major player in the Canadian ink market.”
