Heidelberg is incorporating technology from its flagship 41-inch XL 105 into a new lower-speed 40-inch version being called the CX 102 that will be unveiled at IPEX (May 18 – 25, Birmingham, UK).
With a top running speed of 16,500 sheets per hour, the new CX 102 is positioned ahead of the earlier generation Speedmaster SM 102 and CD 102 (13,000 sph and 15,000 sph respectively) and just below the Speedmaster XL 105 (18,000 sph).
Technology that was unique to the Speedmaster XL line-up has been incorporated into the design of the CX 102, including the gripper system and cylinder bearings, as well as a fortified printing unit construction to prevent vibrations and ensure smooth running at maximum speed.
"With the introduction of the Speedmaster XL 105, we have successfully established a completely new performance class in the last few years. Right from the start, the Speedmaster SM 102 and CD 102 series have benefited from the achievements we made in XL development," noted Stephan Plenz, member of the Heidelberg Management Board and responsible for the equipment sector, in a release.
"Thanks to the host of innovations and new maximum speed of 16,500 sheets per hour, the Speedmaster CX 102 is an interesting option for anyone who is impressed with the XL technology and wants to combine it with the benefits of the CD 102 platform."
The 28 x 40-inch CX 102 will suit both commercial and packaging printers with its ability to handle lightweight papers up to stiff boards as well as a range of plastic materials. The modular press design enables customized configurations, from a conventional straight press to a Duo configurations with a coating unit before offset units.
Like the XL 105, communication with machine components and auxiliaries takes place via the decentralized Sheetfed Control press control system. Prinect Inpress Control, the spectrophotometric inline measuring system, can be incorporated on the Speedmaster CX 102.
Heidelberg will take orders for the new CX 102 at IPEX, no delivery dates were announced.
