Printers are once again being faced with increasing costs to run to their conventional offset lithographic printing business as Kodak has announced it will be increasing the price of its plates from five to as much as 20 percent beginning May 1.

“During a time when all companies are facing added costs of doing business, we will work closely with our customers to ensure that both their plate needs and business requirements are met as effectively as possible,” said Doug Edwards, general manager, prepress solutions and vice president, Kodak in the company’s release.

According to the company this world-wide increase is being driven by rising costs of essential raw materials and energy used in offset plate production. The price increases will range from five to 10 percent for digital plates and from 15 to 20 percent for conventional plates.

Kodak will be providing more pricing details to customers and dealers in April. The company ensures that all current contractual commitments will be honored.
