The German business media continue to report on speculative merger talks going on between Heidelberg and manroland, some insisting the discussions are at an advanced stage.

Bloomberg.com has reported that, "The German companies are in talks to combine, according to two people familiar with the negotiations."

Speaking with financial analysts, the Bloomberg report notes that the companies would likely have to sell off some assets in order to gain approval from competition bureaus in the European Union. Bernhard Schreier, CEO Heidelberg, is expected to be at the McCormick Center in Chicago next week for PRINT 09 (September 11 to 16).
