Cohoes, New York-based Mohawk Fine Papers Inc. has strengthened its position in the uncoated fine paper market with the acquisition of the premium uncoated writing, text and cover brands from SMART Papers of Hamilton, Ohio. The move reportedly makes Mohawk North America’s largest supplier of premium papers in this category, adding brands including Carnival, Passport, Genesis, Synergy, Pegasus, Feltweave, Nekoosa, and more.
Mohawk—privately owned and still led by its founding family—also becomes the exclusive marketer of SMART’s American-made premium coated paper brands Kromekote and Knightkote, supplying to paper distributors. SMART Papers will continue to manufacture Kromekote and Knightkote at its Ohio facility and sell to strategic accounts worldwide.
