Developed for print company owners, employees, students and educators, the Canadian Printing Industries Sector Council (CPISC) has released another set of Skill Standards reports, part of the Sector Council’s Skills for the Future project.

The latest suite of Skill Standards and Occupational Profiles, designed for Estimators, Sales Representatives and Production Coordinators/Customer Service Representatives, describe what an employee should know and be able to do on the job. These reports follow similar projects already published for prepress, pressroom and bindery operations. The complete set of the reports can be viewed and downloaded for free at the CPISC website. Standards for Production Managers are in the early stages of development and are slated for release late 2011.

“Employees in production support have a significant impact on workflow, quality control and the bottom line,” said project chair Brian Ellis at the launch event of the new standards during Print World 2010 in Toronto on Sunday, Nov. 21. “These new standards and occupational profiles will ensure that we have a better-trained, more adaptable workforce that will help our industry prosper.”

“Standards enable an employer to assess the skills of new and current employees, helping them to identify what training and development is most needed to help employees perform at their best,” added CPISC co-Chair Jeff Ekstein. “They are also being used for curriculum development in post-secondary and training institutions.”
