Ryerson University’s Graphic Communications Management program held its annual awards night on November 13th recognizing excellence among students. New awards were introduced this year including the Spirit of Youth Award, donated by Frank McPherson, founder of Custom Data Imaging Corp. in Markham, Ontario. An emotional McPherson characterized the award as being for those who go beyond what’s demanded of them. "It’s for the people who, through trials and tribulations, lift themselves above and beyond everyone else."

McPherson presented the first two Spirit of Youth awards to Tiffany Sine (above, top) and Zeinab Panahi Dorcheh.
Another new award, to be presented next year for the first time, is based on Eco-Sustainability and was introduced by Tom Menard (GCM class of ’77) operations manager at Acuity Printing in Richmond Hill, Ontario. "You folks really are the future," said Menard. "The Eco Sustainability program is about leaving things better than when you found it." The award will recognize students committed to promoting sustainability for the industry.
Also, a new Student Travel Funding award was also announced in the name of Ryerson professor, Richard Adam’s mother, who passed away earlier this year.
