With a surge of UV flabed wide format inkjet printers hitting the market over the past few years, Mutoh continues to stand its ground with a new model of its solvent ink ValueJet 1608HA hybrid (flatbed/roll) printer, with a suggested price for the unit under US$50,000.

The upgraded printing system includes a "medical grade" air pump to drive its heated air nozzles for drying the printer’s bio-solvent ink. The printer integrates the hot air nozzle controllers into the printer thus enabling drying control from the RIP or control panel.

The print quality on the new system is achieved with new Epson print heads capable of five variable dot sizes, producing print modes up to 1,440 x 1,440 dpi resolution with double the speed of previous models.

Courtesy of the system’s design, it can print both rigid and roll materials, and with its Mubio solvent-based inks (made with 80 percent plant-derived substances) it prints directly onto corrugated plastics, polystyrene, PVC, acrylic, foam board and more.

The system prints at speeds up to 120 sq. ft./hr. in production mode and it incorporates the company’s patented Intelligent Interweave print technique to virtually eliminate banding.
